Laya UPDATE
Husky [Mix]

Laya is a sled dog who is 3 years old. She was brought to the shelter along with her friends Chewy and Sammy (see their listings above) because they were too small for their team. They are all the same age and may be siblings. Laya's previous owner said that she is very well mannered and loves to run. Crate trained. Laya can be a little shy, but she is also extremely personable. Highly energetic. Happy-go-lucky attitude. She has a nice coat and a good weight. Likes to jump. Laya is good with children of any age, and with other dogs. No cats please.
Laya went mushing with our volunteers on Nov 11, 2008:
"Laya was brought in with Chewy and Sammy as they were too small for the person's team. All of these dogs were well cared for. They are social and very friendly. Sammy even has an Iditarod microchip!! Laya is white/cream. On the small side. She is sweet and loves to go. All 3 dogs were very driven and have nice gaits. Very smooth and efficient."
Laya is out in the dogyard on House B.

"Chewy is a bit larger male than the 2 females he arrived with. Maybe a 40 pound dog. He is reddish brown/white with nice markings. I super like this dog. He is very friendly and very driven. We put him in lead and he did great. Never was confused as to why he was up front. He has a ton of potential and would plug into just about any team. The 3 dogs have a fair amount of speed. We never saw them trot. These 3 dogs are 3 years old."
Chewy is out in the dogyard on House I. Cool dog!

Miss Crabtree is a lovely young lady. She was found by a citizen 4 weeks ago, living under a porch with 3 tiny puppies. This little family has been at the shelter since Oct 11th. Miss Crabtree was extremely thin, but now she is looking great! The puppies are now old enough for adoption, so their mommy can also be adopted now. Miss Crabtree is a gentle girl and was an excellent mother. She is on the small side and is easy to handle. She walks nicely on leash and is well behaved. She is already vaccinated and microchipped. Miss Crabtree is about 1.5 years old. Sweet lady who deserves a warm home!

Buster Brown is only 8 months old. He was brought to the shelter because his owner could no longer keep him. He is a super-high energy dog who loves people. He needs a lot of attention, and needs an owner who would be dedicated to training him. Should do well in an active home. Buster's previous owner said that he is good with dogs, cats, and children over 2 years of age. Very playful and affectionate. He will get into trash if it is not secured. Can be noisy. Buster is not housebroken, but he has had little training.

Her previous owner feels that she would be more suitable for a junior musher, recreational team, or skijorer. Plugi is not accustomed to being indoors, and is more comfortable outside. Good with other dogs and children; unknown with cats. Crate trained. Minds well and is good in a car. Plugi is shy and will need time to warm up to new people. She is accustomed to running with sleds, but not 4-wheelers. Plugi is out in the dogyard on House G.

Kibo came in as a stray, and is now available for adoption. Found at Olnes Pond in Chatanika. He was born in 2004. Kibo comes from excellent distance bloodlines; his father was a two-time Iditarod finisher. Kibo ran in the 2007 Iditarod and has an Iditarod microchip and race tag. He won the Tustumena 200. Started in the Yukon Quest in 2008. He is a bit shy, but is easy to handle. Kibo is a larger male with great conformation. Kibo is out in the dogyard on House L.
